International Program
As a school, we define ourselves as an institution dedicated to scientific and technological education, emphasizing community and interpersonal connections. We prompt students to critically engage with their surroundings, cultivating open-minded individuals for society.
We aim to foster individual skills, interests and creativity by motivating students in a relevant and forward-thinking learning environment. Encouraging self-reflection and embracing the school's philosophy in a positive light, we foster a respectful interaction among stakeholders, forming the basis for an inclusive school community.
We facilitate exposure to additional fields of work and studies by connecting learners with other schools, businesses and public institutions. Our objective is to stay abreast of societal changes as well as innovations in science and technology, meeting the challenges of our times.
FAQ
Which languages are spoken and taught in the international program?
The majority of subjects are taught in English, so we strongly recommend evaluating your language skills independently or seeking feedback from your English teacher in advance.
If more than 22 students enroll for the class, an entry test will take place in February (further information will be provided during the enrolment process). The rest of the enrolment process is based on the resolution Beschluss der Landesregierung 796 vom 24.09.2024.
In addition to English, German and Italian, the main local languages, are also taught and can be offered at different proficiency levels if needed.
What characterizes the international program compared to other branches at our school?
The international program is modeled after the German applied sciences curriculum of the Realgymnasium as well as the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB). This program is characterized by a scientific and inquiry-based approach within a predominantly English-speaking environment, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and holistic methods of learning and teaching. Students still retain the flexibility to switch between the international program and the regular school track if necessary, following designated procedures.
What are opportunities for further education after graduation?
Our goal is to become an accredited IB school, providing students with the opportunity to earn an international diploma. This diploma is recognized by most universities worldwide, opening doors to a wide array of opportunities for further studies in fields such as natural sciences, law, economics, or the humanities. Discussions regarding the recognition of the Diploma as a “Matura” are underway. For further information we recommend consulting the respective homepage to gather more understanding of the teaching and learning philosophy and the course and assessment structures.
What does a timetable in the international program look like?
The timetable consists of (mostly) double lessons, with a maximum of four different subjects per day. Classes begin at 08:40am and end at 12.15pm (on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) and at 01.05pm (on Wednesdays and Fridays). Afternoon classes are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Which subjects are taught in the international program?
The languages English, German, and Italian are closely integrated with History and Geography. The core STEM subjects (MINT subjects in German)—Mathematics, Physics, and Sciences—during the first three years complement other subjects such as Physical and Health Education (PHE), Theatre, Visual Arts, and Design with Digital Technologies.
In essence, PHE incorporates health concepts into traditional physical education, while Theatre and Visual Arts provide students with the opportunity to perform in front of others and apply creativity in both their actions and creations. In Design, students use digital tools to develop creative solutions and enhance problem-solving skills.
In the last two years, subjects such as Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Community, Activity, Service are added. The Extended Essay includes a research paper with a subject-specific focus, while Theory of Knowledge provides an insight into philosophical theories and the reasoning on foundations of knowledge.
The following figure outlines the subjects along with their respective weekly time commitments.

Which options are offered for lunch break?
Students may eat their packed lunches in the schoolyard or designated recess areas within the school buildings. Additionally, a canteen service (“Mensa”) at the WFO Bozen is available for lunch. More detailed information regarding this service will be provided after enrolment by administration.
How are assessments conducted in the international program and what are the evaluation criteria?
In the international program, assessments are carried out according to the International Baccalaureate (IB) evaluation procedures with its rigorous standards. Additionally, the
national grading system is implemented alongside the IB framework to meet local requirements. The integration of both systems is a work in progress, with continuous adjustments being made momentarily.
